The secret to life as a digital nomad is 1 thing. Remember that movie “City Slickers”? I loved that movie as a teenager but I was an adult before it resonated with me. If you haven’t watched this movie as an adult, I recommend sitting down to watch it.

At 40, Mitch Robbins is close to a midlife crisis and has concluded he is not happy with his boring life. He wonders, “What is out there for him?” And so he and 2 friends take off across the country to take part in a cattle drive across the southwest. Their supervisor is a legendary cowboy named Curly and during the trip, the characters learn a lot about themselves.

Travel seems to do that for us. It gives us a new perspective and introduces us to life outside the confines of our current situation. I love to travel for so many reasons. Most of all because it allows me to see things from a different perspective. It allows me to get out of my own way and accept life because it’s such a big world out there!

These middle-aged guys have some real conversations about the lives they have created for themselves. As they WORK through the cattle drive they discover they CAN have a different life. They set out on this journey to get away from their lives, to enjoy the great outdoors. They learn about themselves as they wrestle with the cattle on the trail and their minds at the same time. Learning to control the cattle and how they respond to challenges.

How often is that how we discover things about ourselves? If you will indulge me here, these guys are taking cattle from one ranch to another. They know their destination, it’s mapped out. It’s only through the challenges along the journey that they learn about themselves and are ready to get to their destination when they arrive.

The Big Reveal: The Secret To Life

At one point in the movie, Mitch asks Curly what the secret of life is. His response is “the secret of life is one thing”. Mitch gets excited….great! What’s the one thing? That’s what you have to figure out. All of a sudden it dawns on Mitch that HE is in control of how happy he is and figuring out the one thing that is the secret to him living HIS best life. It’s up to him.

I share that story with you to remind you that YOU are responsible for your happiness.

YOU are responsible for finding out what the Vision for your life is. No one can tell you.

No one else is responsible for ensuring that you don’t wake up and say ‘This is the best I’m ever going to look, the best I’m ever going to feel, the best I’m ever going to do,’ and it ain’t that great?”

Let’s create a Vision together and then create a roadmap so that you don’t wake up next year and wonder how you ended up here.

Let’s figure out where you’re going so that you can accept the challenges that will come along to teach you along the way.

It’s up to you to start today to figure out that one thing! I can help you do that!
